Where Passenger Infrastructure Meets Controlled Operations

The border inspection building at Beijing Daxing International Airport serves a complex mix of travellers, inspection personnel, airport employees and authorised visitors. Its washrooms sit within an environment where public circulation and controlled operations meet.

Airport facilities also work to a different rhythm from ordinary commercial buildings. Operating hours are long, user demand changes with flight schedules and maintenance access must be carefully managed. A product that is difficult to service can affect an active facility far beyond the bathroom itself.

The Challenge: Keep Multiple Zones Operational

Passenger-facing washrooms require clear layouts and fixtures that can handle repeated public use. Staff and controlled areas have different access patterns but still need dependable products and a consistent maintenance logic.

The project therefore needed sanitary ware that could be configured by zone while remaining part of one manageable supply package. Product interfaces, flushing components and water fittings had to be aligned before they reached the construction site.

Planning around Operation, Not Only Appearance

MICAWA reviewed the bathroom package from the perspective of daily airport operation.

Toilets and urinals formed the main public sanitary capacity. Basins, faucets and sensor-operated fixtures completed the washing and flushing functions. The products were coordinated as functional groups so the project team could evaluate both the individual fixtures and the relationships between them.

Particular attention was given to repeated installation logic. Consistent product families and clear configurations make it easier for contractors to install the products and for facility teams to understand them after handover.

Production within a Major Infrastructure Programme

Airport construction involves tightly connected trades and schedules. Sanitary ware supply must follow the approved project sequence, not an isolated factory timetable.

After the configurations were confirmed, MICAWA linked manufacturing and inspection to the project programme. Product information, packing identification and delivery follow-up supported the movement of the bathroom package from production into the appropriate building areas.

Technical support remained available as installation questions emerged, helping protect the approved product direction during implementation.

The Result: A Washroom Package Designed for Continuity

The border inspection building project extended MICAWA’s public-project experience into transport infrastructure. It demonstrated how coordinated sanitary ware supply can support a facility with long operating hours, multiple access zones and a low tolerance for avoidable maintenance disruption.

The result was not simply a collection of fixtures. It was a product programme organised around the way an airport facility is built, used and maintained.
