Paediatric Care Changes Who Uses the Washroom
A children’s hospital rarely serves one person at a time. Young patients are often accompanied by parents or carers, while clinicians and support teams move through the same facility on different routines.
This makes washroom planning more complex than simply separating public and staff areas. MICAWA supported Fujian Children’s Hospital with a coordinated product programme organised around the hospital’s varied spaces.

The Challenge: Avoid a Generic Hospital Solution
Public waiting areas, family-use spaces, staff facilities and supporting zones can have different layouts and user expectations.
The project needed to assign appropriate sanitary ware and faucets to each application while retaining a product family that the hospital could operate and maintain consistently.
Reviewing the Complete User Interaction
MICAWA considered how users encounter the washroom from entry to handwashing.
Toilets, squat toilets and urinals were organised according to the intended area. Basins and faucets were paired as complete washing arrangements. Cisterns and sensor-operated components were coordinated with the relevant sanitary fixtures.
This complete interaction mattered in a paediatric environment, where clear, familiar operation helps children and accompanying adults use the facilities with less confusion.
Keeping the Product Family Manageable
The hospital did not need every zone to use identical fixtures, but it did benefit from shared components and consistent technical information.
MICAWA kept the category scope connected through samples, production and delivery. The approved combinations provided installers with a clearer reference and gave facility teams a more manageable product base after handover.

The Outcome: Flexibility for Users, Consistency for Operations
Fujian Children’s Hospital demonstrates how a specialised facility can adapt washroom products to different users without losing operational control.
The project balanced the needs of children and families with the practical requirements of clinicians, cleaning teams and facility managers. That balance is the foundation of a credible paediatric washroom programme.
